David Mirkin interview from animationmagazine.net “We were at a table reading for the 200th episode and I said as a very sarcastic joke, “We’re half way there!” and it got a huge laugh because people just figured that we were much closer to the end, and now it’s fairly certain that we’ll make 400 episodes. It turned out to be nightmarishly true that we had to keep pumping these things out.” |

It is the first time anyone has been given free rein to write an episode, Groening said.”We trust Ricky because we’ll take his scripts and just rip it apart,” he said. “It’s the greatest show on earth and I’m sure that all I can do is make it slightly worse.” Groening said he wanted to get Eddie Izzard, Simon Cowell and the Beckhams on the hit show, too. |

Disabled scientist professor Stephen Hawking’s decision to make a second cameo appearance in The Simpsons has angered his wife. The forthcoming episode of the TV cartoon show will feature electro-convulsive shock therapy (ECT) being used to treat schizophrenia, a plot device Elaine Hawking thinks shouldn’t be used in an animated comedy. She says, “I’m not altogether happy with it. I just don’t think that ECT’s the sort of thing that anybody should make fun out of – it’s just not right for comedy. “I read the scripts and obviously told Stephen of my concerns, but he thinks it’s fine, so I’ll have to go along with that.” |

Though the quality of the show has suffered in recent years, Fox has allowed us to revisit the early, classic episodes in a comprehensive DVD series. Next week they’ll release the next installment covering the fifth season. This DVD set offers nearly 20 minutes of deleted scenes spread across nearly all the episodes. The acting and gags here are as good as anything that was left in the show. An optional commentary track allows producers Al Jean and Dave Mirkin to explain why these scenes just didn’t make the cut. |

“In the second or third year of the show, we made a key decision about the show during an episode about Kamp Krusty,” Brooks recalls. “I knew we could add 40 minutes to it because it was a great story and it would fill out in a hurry and it was a great summer movie. But we said to each other, ‘We’re a television show.’ “That may now change, though Brooks warns that no contracts have been signed as yet. “The reason we’re not committed is we care so much about what we do,” Brooks says of the show, which was created by cartoonist Matt Groening initially as interstitial cartoons for a variety series starring Tracey Ullman. “We just want to do the show proud.” says James L. Brooks. |

DirectorJames L. Brooks said the nine original members of the animated show’s creative team, including himself and creator Matt Groening, will reunite for the film version.”The idea of the movie is that all of us who ran the show at one point and who have been there from the beginning come together as the writing team for this movie,” Brooks told Tattle during a press junket to promote his latest film, “Spanglish.”
They already have a plot, according to Brooks. But nobody’s ready to talk about Homer and gang’s big-screen escapades just yet. “We’re going to put some fake plots out there just to make it interesting,” he joked. |

Tony Hawk (guest star on the Simpsons): “The biggest validation was being on The Simpsons – it’s such a measure of being a pop-culture icon. They rarely put people on The Simpsons that they want to make fun of – unless they’re pretending it’s that person. If the famous person is being imitated by a voice, you know that they’re going to destroy them, but if it’s the actual voice of the person then that means you’ve come of age.” |
