British comedian Ricky Gervais is to appear as a guest star in an episode of The Simpsons. The show’s producers have reportedly been desperate for some time to sign up Gervais, who is best known for playing sleazy boss David Brent in The Office television programme. No date has been set yet, but the British magazine Nuts have written Homer Simpson should be meeting up with David Brent within the next year. Gervais has recently produced an American version of The Office, made a guest appearance in Alias and picked up two Golden Globe awards.Everyman Homer Simpson would be the ideal candidate for President of the United States, it was reported today by local Springfield news anchor Kent Brockman. Simpson detailed his would-be platform after downing several cans of Duff beer at his favorite watering hole, Moe’s Tavern. Simpson has yet to name his running mate, but it is rumored to be either Barney, Moe, Lenny or Carl. It is unlikely Homer would choose Krusty the Clown, given Krusty’s failed bid for the presidency in 1992. Vowing to make a change, Simpson revealed the following campaign

“D’oh!” became a real word to describe real emotions – really quickly – in June of 2001. The great philosopher king, Matt Groening (a.k.a. Homer Simpson) noticed a huge gap in the language we use to describe frustration and wisely jumped at the opportunity to expand our psychological lexicon. Webster’s New Dictionary, realizing we needed that one, short descriptive word to convey disappointment, added it to their official publication that year.

This week’s Radio Times cover will feature an illustration of Homer Simpson sitting in the White House and include the character’s own manifesto for a better America.It will also feature an exclusive interview with the creator, Matt Groening.

Doughnut-munching, beer-guzzling Homer Simpson may not be the model father but he has won the hearts of British TV fans who want the nuclear power plant worker to be the next US president. Former president George Bush notoriously said American families should be “closer to the Waltons than the Simpsons” but Homer was the overwhelming favourite in a Radio Times magazine poll on which US TV character should take over at the White House.

The sister of bad-boy Bart and daughter of bumbling Homer will appear in a special episode of The Simpsons shouting out support for the independence of Cornwall in the nearly dead language of ancient Cornish as an alternative broadcast to the Queen’s traditional Christmas address.

Children’s TV favourite Scooby-Doo has been awarded a Guinness World Record for notching up the most episodes of a cartoon comedy series.
The show’s 350th episode, Scooby-Doo Halloween, is being screened on the Boomerang channel on Friday, beating a previous record held by The Simpsons.

The Simpsons cartoon is not just a satire of its time, but also a ground-breaker for pop culture, says the Canadian author of a new book about of the show. Chris Turner, the Calgary writer of Planet Simpson: How a Cartoon Masterpiece Documented an Era and Defined a Generation, was in London yesterday for a preview of his book launch today in Toronto.The Simpsons was brought to life in 1987 and Springfield Elementary School’s rowdy and unenthusiastic class members have become a household favourite.

Pop singer Christina Aguilera is set to make an appearance on The Simpsons, according to The Sun today. The newspaper claims that Aguilera stars as a “showbiz wannabe” when Lisa Simpson auditions for a Pop Idol-style talent show. Viewers can expect to see Aguilera’s appearance on the show later on in the sixteenth season.

British pop mogul Simon Cowell is such a huge fan of The Simpsons he guest-starred on the TV sitcom for free <sigh!>
