April 19, 1987: The Simpsons make their TV debut as an animated short on “The Tracey Ullman Show.”

Dec. 17, 1989: A half-hour Christmas special, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire,” airs.

Jan. 14, 1990: The first official episode of “The Simpsons” airs.

April 11, 1991: Beatle Ringo Starr guest stars as himself in “Brush with Greatness.”

Sept. 19, 1991: Michael Jackson contributes voice to the first episode of the third season. He is listed in the credits as John Jay Smith.

Sept. 30, 1993: Beatle George Harrison guest stars as himself in “Homer’s Barbershop Quartet.”

April 28, 1994: The 100th episode airs.

May 21, 1995: The first part of “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” closes the sixth season.

Sept. 17, 1995: The second part of “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” opens the seventh season.

Oct. 15, 1995: Beatle Paul McCartney guest stars as himself in “Lisa the Vegetarian.”

Oct. 27, 1996: The two 1996 presidential candidates, Bill Clinton and Bob Dole, are kidnapped by space aliens in the “Treehouse of Horror VII” Halloween episode.

Feb. 9, 1997: With “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show,” “The Simpsons” surpasses “The Flintstones” as the longest running animated prime-time series.

April 26, 1998: The 200th episode airs.

Sept. 27, 1998: Phil Hartman, who voiced popular characters like Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz, makes his final appearance on the show. (He was murdered by his wife on May 28, 1998.)

Oct. 3, 1999: Mark McGwire guest stars in “Brother’s Little Helper,” in which Bart takes drugs to enhance his academic performance.

Feb. 13, 2000: Ned Flanders’ wife Maude is killed off the show.

April 7, 2002: Homer is prescribed medical marijuana and lobbies for the drug’s legalization. Phish guest star as themselves.

Feb. 2, 2003: The real 300th episode airs.

Feb. 16, 2003: The advertised 300th episode airs.

Jan. 25, 2004: Reclusive author Thomas Pynchon guest stars as himself in “Diatribe of a Mad Housewife.”

April 17, 2005: The real 350th episode airs.

May 1, 2005: The advertised 350th episode airs.

May 14, 2006: The show takes on creationism vs. evolutionism in “The Monkey Suit.”

May 20, 2007: The real (and advertised) 400th episode airs.

July 27, 2007: The long-anticipated “Simpsons Movie” debuts in theaters.
