The Who Set For ‘Simpsons’ Season Opener 7/26/00: The Who has signed on as the special guest for the season premiere of The Simpsons, which will air November 5 on the Fox network. Joining a long list of musicians who have been caricatured on the show– including ex-Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Sting, U2, Aerosmith, and Sonic Youth — Who members Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, and John Entwistle will portray themselves in “A Tale Of Two Springfields,” in which the band plays peacemaker as Homer, the self-appointed mayor of West Springfield, wages war with East Springfield after a new area code divides the town. This will mark the Who’s first TV appearance in cartoon form. The group’s explosive 1967 live-action performance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour recently placed Number 10 on VH1’s list of “100 Greatest Rock & Roll Moments on TV.”
