Eric
Harshbarger has made two characters from The
Simpsons using Lego bricks - Bart Simpson and his friend
Milhouse Van Houten. Bart model stands about
three and a half feet tall. Lego Bart probably weighs
about 30 pounds. It proved quite tricky to
translate the two dimensional picture (right) to three
dimensions. The eyes and head, especially, took
some ingenuity in order to look correct from all angles
(not just the angle profiled in the 2D sketch). In television
land reality, Eric realized that Milhouse's
shirt is not really white, but the more accurate
light blue just wasn't gonna happen with Lego bricks.
Milhouse stands thirty-seven inches tall and weighs
about twenty-five to thirty pounds. Photos used with
permission of Eric Harshbarger.

This model of Homer Simpson is 4 feet tall and contains about 10,000
pieces. Sean Kenney spent over 2 weeks designing
and building him. It was his first time he had ever
built a large-scale LEGO sculpture,
and I learned a lot in the process. (A duplicate copy
of this model is for sale, $4500).

The
electric hammer devised by a team at the University
of Bath, UK, uses a motor that is mounted so that
it rocks about on a point in the middle of its handle
to drive the head of the hammer rapidly back and forth,
delivering a rapid succession of blows to its target.
To give credit where it is due, Homer
Simpson invented the electric hammer in episode 205 of The Simpsons, "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace",
first aired in 1998. Even then, it was apparently very similar to an invention
seen in the 1984 film Gremlins.

ICED SIMPS
The Simpsons have spent so long chilling
in front of the telly they have frozen on the couch. Ice artists
Zac Piatt and DJ Hornacek created this wintry image of Homer’s
famous cartoon family. They took eight hours to carve the sculpture
from a block of snow. Family is only on display in Omaha, Nebraska,
until they melt.

LIVE SCRIPT READING
There's more to The Simpsons' than
meets the eye - as the cast of the animated show is proving with
sold-out live script-readings in Britain. The Simpsons Mania
tour has proved to be just that, as it adds flesh and blood to Homer,
Marge, Bart, Lisa and the dozens of other residents of Springfield.
Photos contains Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith
and Tress Macneille and of course Matt Groening with his digital
camera.

to emphasise the utter cartoon-like stupidity of the UK Government's

A group called "The Lisa Simpsons" proudly
and openly claims the credit for altering large numbers of Don Brash
billboards overnight and says it plans to keep doing so throughout
the country. The Lisa Simpsons were out last night "repackaging"
Don Brash to an image that will be more familiar and also more informative
for many New Zealanders: the big business, pro-nuclear face of Montgomery
Burns from TV’s The Simpsons.

THE SIMPSONS GLOBAL FANFEST
The Simpsons

anniversary started in year 2000. The Simpsons Global Fanfest kicks
off on Jan. 14th, 2000 as The Simpsons receive their long-awaited
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There was other special events,
TV programs, merchandise, and promotions throughout the year, culminating
in The Simpsons Global Fanfest Weekend Celebration on Oct. 27th
through 29th, 2000, a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of Simpsons fans
and creators in Hollywood, CA. Mark Tarses, hard-core fan of The
Simpsons we're invited to the main event: If anything was
surprising about the FanFest, it was how ordinary the people who
produce The Simpsons look, talk, and act. You would never guess
by looking at them that they are such an astonishing collection
of incredibly talented people. Read rest of the story here and see more of the photographs.

HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME
Our Favorite Family received
star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 1999. It was a big event. The
Simpsons crew was celebrating it with fans and press. More photos
from the same event: Hank Black, fan who was with his camera ready
to roll says It was very hard to get any good pictures with
such a large crowd; I had to hold my camera high over my head to
get the few shots I did. You might be interested to know that about
1/3 of the audience were rowdy, noisy, fun animators. Groening asked
them why they weren't at work on the show!.
